Papers (1918-2005) relating to Greenville and Enfield, North Carolina boy scout leader including his World War I Diary recounting his service in the 14th Company, 4th Training Battalion, Depot Brigade and the 218th Ambulance Company in the American Expeditionary Force in France, 1918-1919, camp schedule, list of letters received and answered, addresses of French women, debts, English - French phrase, movements, places visited, and observations on daily military activities; memorials after his death; biographical sketches and clippings; letters and clippings describing him; and photographic prints of him in his World War I uniform. Collection (1766-2010) consists of items related to the Augustus Moore (June 8, 1803-March 23, 1851) family of Chowan and Halifax Cos., N.C., his children Augustus Minton Moore, William Armistead Moore, Henrietta Moore Sutton, Susan Augustus Moore Righton, Mary Elizabeth Moore, Alfred Moore and John Armistead Moore, and the descendants of John Armistead Moore. Included are account books, legal records, land transactions, estate records, correspondence, clippings, and autograph books (1855, 1865) belonging to family members who attended Miss Willard's Female Seminary in Troy, N.Y., and Patapsco Female Institute in Ellicott City, Maryland. Also included are identified photographs (cartes de visite, tintypes, cased pictures, albums) of the Moore, Gilliam, and Skinner, families, religious books such as Roman Catholic Missals, Episcopal Books of Common Prayer and Bibles, UNC-Chapel Hill diplomas (1824), and items related to the 1878 Exposition in Paris, France.

Papers (1767-1976) of three generations of Beaufort County, NC, lawyers named William B. Rodman, including correspondence, letterpress books, speeches, financial records, legal files, farm records, clippings, printed material, newspapers, photographs, genealogical material and miscellaneous. Originally from New York, the Rodmans married into the prominent Blount family in Beaufort County, NC. The Rodmans also held local and state government offices and were judges.
Personal Correspondence (December 30, 1861-September 16, 1862; April 1863) written by William Wilberforce Douglas to his family members during his service in the Fifth Rhode Island Volunteers and in General Ambrose Burnside's Expeditionary Corps in North Carolina. Letters, copied by his mother, Sarah Sawyer Douglas, from originals into a single bound journal, include references to his time at the battles of Roanoke Island, New Bern, and Fort Macon. Additionally, the journal includes newspaper clippings accounting his exploits in the war.
A journal (1/19 – 6/29/1859) written by Augustus M. Handley, a young British Army officer in the 19th Regiment of Foot, of a voyage from Gravesend, England, to Calcutta, India, aboard the sailing ship H.M.S. Bucton Castle with Captain Moorsom commanding. The journal contains a detailed description of daily life aboard the Bucton Castle, including various personalities on board, daily activities, an explanation of the ship's time-keeping, a drawing of the ship with parts labeled, notes on the how-to of navigation, changing weather conditions, sea conditions, and meetings with the various ships along the way.

The Kayaitchess (1924) Vol. 1, published by the students of Kinston High School, Kinston, North Carolina, and the Connecting Link Commencement Issue 1926, published every other week by students of Kinston City Schools under the Supervision of Committee of Teachers have been transferred to the North Carolina Collection and have been catalogued.

This collection contains a memoir (ca. 1872) about life in New Bern, N.C., from 1822 to 1872. It includes biographical and informational data concerning politicians, lawyers and other important New Bern figures, as well as descriptions of life in New Bern and historical incidents of the period. An appendix contains transcripts of letters from prominent people.
Muster roll for a detachment of the 29th Regiment U. S. Colored Troops Detachment under the command of Capt. Wilson Camp, dated June 30 – August 31, 1865. The roll documents the names, ranks, enlistment data, and service records of the 17-man detachment consisting of soldiers from Illinois, Indiana, and Maryland.
Diary and military records of Carter Berkeley Simpson (1915-1944). Includes a typescript of a diary and a facsimile of the diary. The facsimile includes photographs, military records, receipts of letters, correspondence, and a description of daily routine activities during Simpson's service and as a prisoner of war.
This collection contains Mary Stephenson Hammel's items from her time as a student at East Carolina which are her diploma, publication award for her work on the yearbook, and letter patch for her participation in the Women's Athletic Association. Additionally, there is a 2005 photograph of Mary and a copy of the Alumni Association's booklet made for the class of 1955's Golden Alumni event.
