Papers (1905-1942) of Allen Jay Maxwell, N.C. Commissioner of Revenue (1929-1942), including a biographical sketch, newspaper clippings, photographs, and speeches relating to state tax issues, his campaigns for N.C. governor, dissatisfaction with public school history textbooks and other aspects of his life.
Collection (1816-1899) including correspondence, legal papers, military papers, etc. relating to William D. Holt and his cotton sales business, local policies, railroad construction, the Farmers Alliance, private debts, his service during the Civil War, and business records.
This collection (c. 1880-2001) contains the papers of three generations of U.S. Navy officers whose service covered the years 1891 through 1963. Correspondence, orders, reports, photographs, certificates, publications, a diary, ships histories, clippings and reminiscences document their careers and that of Waldron McLellon's uncle who served in the U.S. Navy from 1934 through 1952. Waldron M. McLellon graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1941 and copious material relates to the lives of the USNA Class of 1941 members through 2001. Other papers concern the genealogy of Waldron McLellon's family.

[William De Witt] Snodgrass (1926-2009), a Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania-born American poet, literary critic, translator and educator at various universities, including the University of Delaware (1979-1994); consisting of typescripts of two works: Autobiographical Essays (1979) and From the "Death of Cock Robin" (1979); also a proof of his pamphlet Magda Goebbels (1983); loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including from his works entitled D. D. Byrde Callyng, Jennie Wrenn (1984), Heart's Needle (1959), In Radical Pursuit (1976), Six Minnesinger Songs (1983), and Spaulding Distinguished Lectures (1969); and a printed brochure entitled A Note from the Poet (undated) by Snodgrass.
Papers (1908-1967, undated) pertaining to the military career and personal life of Lieutenant General Robert Frederick Sink (1905-1965), a graduate of West Point, a pioneer in the use of airborne warfare, who commanded the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army Airborne Corps, during World War II, 1942-1945, participating in the Allied Invasion of Normandy (1944) and the Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne, Belgium (1944-1945); and served as Chief of Staff of the RYUKUS command based on Okinawa, Japan (1949); as Assistant Commander of the 7th Infantry Division in Korea (1951); as a member of the Joint Airborne Troop Board at Fort Bragg, North Carolina (1954); and as commander of the Strategic Army Corps (STRAC) and the 18th Airborne (1958); he was promoted to lieutenant general, in 1959, and took command of the U.S. Army in the Caribbean, a post he held until he retired in 1961 due to poor health; he died in 1965; the collection consists of correspondence, clippings, manuscripts, photographs & printed materials.

Thomas Harriot was born around 1560 in Oxfordshire, England. He was a cartographer, historian and surveyor for Sir Walter Raleigh's second expedition to Virgina in 1585. The collection is from 2004 and includes a copy of a portrait of Thomas Harriot.
Papers (1760 [1880] - 1935) including correspondence, financial papers, account books, daybooks, essays, speeches, legal records, land records, notebooks, etc. of Eastern North Carolina farmer, leader of the NC Tobacco Growers Association, and NC Secretary of State (1901-1923), etc.
Papers (1946-1948) obtained by Richard Dillard Dixon, Jr., while visiting his father Richard Dillard Dixon, Sr., who participated in the of International Military Tribunal (for Nazi war crimes) held in Nuremberg, Germany, as a member of the judges Secretariat and as a judge. Included are mimeographed transcripts of some of the trials and related manuscripts, press releases, and wall charts delineating the hierarchy of Nazi German government and military system. Other papers (1870-1970) concern the life of Edenton, N.C., attorney, insurance agent, wholesale oil salesman and civic activist Richard Dillard Dixon, Jr.

The ship's log of the US Brig Porpoise, dated 19 February 1845 to 16 June 1846, was kept during a cruise from New York to the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. It details navigational statistics, weather reports, sightings and hailing of other ships, and punishments of crew infractions. The author was probably Midshipman Benjamin Lee Henderson and the log was signed in fifteen places by Lt. Commander William E. Hunt.
This collection contains the records of the Friends of Portsmouth Island including minutes (1990-2016), correspondence, by-laws, 1994 incorporation documents, grant documents, and issues (1991-2016) of their newsletter Doctor's Creek Journal. Also included are documents related to Homecomings at Portsmouth Village (1980, 1992-2016), a DVD produced by the National Geographic Society titled "Portsmouth: Island with a Soul," and a DVD of a project done by UNC-Chapel Hill students titled "Portsmouth—In Search of the Past."
