Diary (Sept. 1943-Dec. 1944) of Joseph John Valinsky, a sailor aboard the USS Monterey, kept during World War II duty in the Pacific, along with correspondence, certificates, and military service identification cards.
This donation consists of 35 cubic feet of records (1993-2014) documenting the NCEast Alliance organization under its previous names of North Carolina's Eastern Region (2005-2014) and Global TransPark Development Commission (1993-2005). NCEast Alliance is a regional economic development agency serving the thirteen counties in eastern North Carolina that surround the Global TransPark at Kinston, North Carolina.
This collection contains material (1895-1936) related to Black minstrel shows that artist Mose McQuitty (who played baritone horn and string bass) toured with. Included are advertisements, photographs, and a route book listing the date, city, state, and lead show that the minstrel troupe toured with. Also included are extensive research files created by Alex Albright. These files chart McQuitty's movement state by state and show by show.
This collection contains correspondence (1928-2013) between Hattie Lou Cannon Schneider in Tampa, Florida, and her mother and sister and other family members in Pitt County, N.C. The earliest letters were written by Hattie Lou as a child living in Pitt County and a few letters were written to her before and right after her marriage to Charles Leland Schneider, Sr., in 1945 when she was stationed as a WAVE at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. Also included are photocopies of two photographs, family history charts, and an autograph book which belonged to Hattie Lou Cannon when she was a member of the 1935 Senior Class at Winterville High School in Pitt County, N.C.
Papers (1873-[1887-1901]-1958) of a Black lawyer, minister and teacher, in New Bern, N.C., who handled pension applications for many African Americans who served in the Union Army and Navy during the Civil War or their widows, consisting of pension affidavit ledgers, pension certificate ledgers, correspondence, pamphlets, daybooks, photographs, poetry, essays, application forms, tax receipts, etc.
