Rep. Howard Chapin Papers (1947-2000) primarily pertaining to his nine terms in the North Carolina General Assembly from Washington, NC, 1974-1992, including personal correspondence, clippings, materials relating to his service on committees, and artifacts he received relating to the bicentennials of Washington, NC and the United States, 1975-76.
The collection includes correspondence and some photographic material documenting the service of Richard Lewis Kinney (1927-2015) of Lexington, North Carolina in the United States Army in occupied Japan at the end of World War II. The collection provides a glimpse of an American soldier's point of view and experience serving overseas during the post-war occupation of Japan.
This collection consists of a large scrapbook dedicated to B. Bruce Sugg, Jr., upon his retirement from the Board of Directors for the North Carolina National Bank. The scrapbook includes ads, articles, and photographs related to the State Bank Trust Co. and the North Carolina National Bank. The two banks merged in 1969, while Sugg, Jr., was Senior Vice President and Trust Officer. According to sugg family members, the ads were written by Mr. Sugg.

Elias Carr (1839-1900) of Edgecombe County, a member of the Democratic Party, was the governor of North Carolina (1893-1897) and president of the N.C. State Farmers' Alliance and Industrial Union (1889-1892).
Frances Cain papers contain materials related to her involvement with the ECU School of Music and her participation in state-wide tennis tournaments.
This collection (1961-1999) contains reports, publication issues, newsletter issues, memos, statements, press releases, and a policy guide received by Carroll Webber during his time as a member and as president of the Pitt/Greenville Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina. Also included are the first four issues of the ACLU "Stand" Magazine (2014-2015).

This notebook is an 1870 student's notebook containing field notes of a Survey of the Coast of North Carolina done for the United States Coast Survey. It was likely kept by Jacob Bell Cornell (1848-1897), a member of the Class of 1872 at Rutgers College in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Of specific interest are a diagram and calculations associated with a lighthouse in the Pamlico Sound and references to Portsmouth Island and Swan Quarter.
Oral history interviews relating to his youth and his experiences, 1917-1972, as the second African-American midshipman to attend the United States Naval Academy (Class of 1941) for approximately three weeks during the summer of 1937, and his education and career as a teacher in the Washington, DC school system, 1942-1972. Joe Gladstone Norman was born on November 5, 1933 in the United States. Norman served in the US Army in Geislingen, Leipheim, Munster, Swabish Gmund, and Ulm, Germany (1956), and Austria (1955). The collection spans 1955-1962 and documents Norman's overseas service, immunizations records, and an Army Graphic Training Aid. The strength of this collection is Post World War II American military troops.
