Genealogical materials for Dixon, Haddock, Hemby, Laughinghouse, Nelson, Jenkins, Baldree, Dail-Deal, Flake, Kittrell and other families of Pitt County, NC. Also includes local history and biographical sketches by William B. Kittrell, a DVD of a Motion picture of Greenville, North Carolina (ca. 1940s-1950s) showing ordinary daily scenes and local buildings, CD of early 20th Century Pitt County schools, and 2 DVDRs made from 8mm reels of home movies (1947-1967) made by the Keel family of Greenville, N.C.

The collection is comprised of papers from Dr. I. Henderson Lutterloh and his son Dr. I. Hayden Lutterloh. It includes correspondence, licenses and receipts from Lutterloh Clinic and Drugstore, medical informational booklets, and handwritten notes from Hayden's education at Jefferson Medical College. Also included is a book based on Hayden's recollections of medicine in Sanford beginning with his father.

Papers (1907-1968) documenting the U.S. Naval career (1910-1946) of Admiral Jules James consisting of correspondence of Naval travels, logbook, diaries, newspapers clippings, radio press news.

Private journals/ships' logs (October 1860 - July 1878) of Benjamin Thompson, master of the brigs Progressive Age and T. A. Darrell, and the ships Sportsman, and Harrisburg (v. 1, 1860-1865), commander of the ship Columbia (v. 2, 1865-1870), master of the ship Peruvian (v. 3, 1870-1872), and captain of the clipper ship Great Admiral (v. 4, 1874-1878), illustrating his career aboard sailing ships trading between England, the east and west coasts of America, Southeast Asia (Singapore, Manila, and Hong Kong), and Tokyo, Japan, including highly detailed and dramatic accounts of shipboard life and commercial operations.

The Van de Sande Family Papers include paper soldiers, horses, and weapons Thilleman van de Sande made circa 1775 in the netherlands; two diplomas for Thilleman; document about Thilleman becoming a doctor written by A. Ypey; and a diploma for Daniel van de Sande.

This collection contains eight 8" by 6" photographs (ca. 1910) mounted on cardboard taken by an unknown photographer of identified buildings, street scenes and the Confederate Monument in Windsor, N.C. The photographs were probably taken for Grady T. Davis, Sr.

Collection (1899-1957 [Bulk: 1899-1954]) of diaries by Rev. J.G. Cassel, a Brethren of Christ missionary in Guatemala, 1899-1957; also an untitled history of missionary work in Guatemala by William Haymaker, written in 1947, describing his missionary career, 1887-1947. 8 vols. The majority of the collection relates to Captain Leslie Avery Shaw's military service in the U.S. Army, especially during World War II when he served in the 11th AAA, 49th AAA Brigade, VII Corps, U.S. First Army in Europe. Included are maps and overlays concerning operations at Utah Beach at Normandy, orders, citations, reports, photographs, letters, postcards, military ribbons and insignia, and items from his personal military file. Additional items including many photographs document his personal life after the war. Photographs, printed material and memorabilia from the 1950s and early 1960s relate to the early years of his son Robert Avery Shaw's life in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Oral history interview with prominent African American businessman and political leader of Greenville, North Carolina, named Denison D. "D.D." Garrett, Sr. He discusses his background, education, business pursuits, and political involvement including race relations in Greenville and Pitt County, especially during the Civil Rights era.
