Stuart Wright Collection: Cleanth Brooks Papers

Papers of Cleanth Brooks (1951-1986) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Murray, Kentucky-born American editor, literary critic and educator at Yale University, who was influential in the New Criticism movement as editor of The Southern Review, 1935-1942; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including Brooks' signed contract to sell his books and literary periodicals to Stuart Wright correspondence between Brooks, George Garrett Stuart Wright; also a reprint of Milton and the New Criticism, by Cleanth Brooks (1951).

Papers (ca. 1793-2002, undated) of the history of the Grady family, of Duplin County, North Carolina including correspondence, legal papers, financial documents, clippings, and photographs relating to various members of the Grady family; also including biographical information on John Grady, who fought in the American Revolution and who is known as the first North Carolinian to die in the war; Benjamin Franklin Grady who fought in the Civil War for the Confederate States of America, and who served in Congress from 1890-1894; and John K. Grady who fought in World War I.

Thomas Robert Lundin Collection

Thomas R. Lundin was born March 24, 1982, in Madison, Wisconsin. After completing high school in 2000 in Greenville, North Carolina, he joined the U.S. Army and served as an Apache Helicopter crew chief for 3rd Infantry Division in Kuwait during the Iraqi War of 2003. This collection contains papers, a diary, maps, military manuals, and ephemera related to his service, especially during the Iraqi War.

Louis Orr Collection

The Louis Orr Collection contains a set of forty-eight prints of the original fifty-one print set (and one replacement print) made from etchings of North Carolina historical landmarks and architectural sites. The etchings were created from 1939 to 1952 by artist Louis Orr, a world-renown etcher, at the behest of North Carolina resident Robert Lee Humber who wanted to preserve North Carolina's heritage by providing the artwork to schools, colleges, public libraries and institutions throughout the state.

John Gaston Rives, Jr. Family Papers

Robert Ryves (later Rives) is traces back to 1465 France. His family eventually settled in North Carolina in the mid 1700's. Robert Ryves descendant John Gaston Rives Jr was born on June 24, 1854 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. This collection spans 1818-1957, 2007 and contains three pages removed from the Rives family Bible, containing birth, death, and marriage records dating between 1818 and 1957, genealogy of the Rives family back to 1465 France, and a photograph of John Gaston Rives Jr. The strength of this collection is the genealogical records.
