2020 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Community Collections: She Changed the World. ECU Joyner Library oral histories and documentary

ECU's Joyner Library was awarded a 2020 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Community Connections grant through the State Library of North Carolina. The theme was "She Changed the World: North Carolina Women Breaking Barriers" in honor of the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment. This award is for projects "that advance excellence and promote equity by strengthening capacity, expanding access, and community engagement in North Carolina's libraries."

Vertical File Collection

The Vertical File Collection contains individual items that don't fit into existing collections. There is no overall theme or subject connecting them. Items included vary from photographs, broadsides, pamphlets, advertising materials, programs, negatives, and postcards to land grants, genealogy notes, and a music transcription book. William Cobb Whitfield Papers

The collection consists of a volume (circa 1897) containing the constitution and bylaws for the Pitt County Medical Society (North Carolina) and also the society's "black list" of patients.

Dennis and Terrence Miller Papers

This collection contains letters (1964-1967) written by brothers Terrence and Dennis Miller of St. Louis, Missouri, who joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Letters written by Dennis Miller during 1967 document his time serving in Vietnam as part of 3rd BN, 60th Ord Co. Also included are letters written by fellow soldiers and friends (through 1971), service records, negatives, military payment certificates, and Vietnamese money.

Getsinger Family Papers

Collection (1803-1996) pertaining to Martin County, NC, farmer John Conrad Getsinger, Sr., (Nov. 4, 1812-Jan. 16, 1891), a native of Wurttemburg, Germany, and several of his descendants consisting of correspondence, memoranda books, a sketchbook created by Mr. Getsinger while he was a soldier (1847-1848) fighting in the Mexican War, financial records, Civil War records pertaining to Mr. Getsinger and his son John C. Getsinger, Jr., religious publications, Primitive Baptist Church records (especially for Smithwick's Creek Primitive Baptist Church), pamphlets, broadsides, photographs, legal papers, newspaper clippings, and miscellany.

William Robinson and M. Emmet Robinson Papers

Material (1844-1891) including correspondence, account books, speeches, pamphlets, receipts, legal papers, and publications concerning William Robinson (an Irish immigrant) who was a newspaper publisher, town commissioner and mayor of Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina, and his son Dr. Marius Emmet Robinson who practiced in Goldsboro, operated a drugstore with his brother, and was the first chief of staff of Goldsboro's first hospital.

Crocker-Haynes-Horton-Riggan-Jordan Family Records

This collection contains birth, death, and marriage records from three related family Bibles for the Crocker, Haynes, Horton, Riggan, Jordan families. The date span covered is 1848 through 2005. Most of the people in these records were from the Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina area. The Jordan family was from Hamlet, North Carolina. A recent generation, the Markowski family, lived in Greenville, North Carolina.
