Papers (1935-2008, undated) pertaining to noted North Carolina-born poet, educator and artist, A. R. [Archie Randolph] Ammons (1926-2001), including manuscripts, books, proofs, broadsides, pamphlets, periodicals and original art by, about, or owned by Ammons; and relating to his family and childhood, near Whiteville, NC, his service in the US Navy on a destroyer escort 1942-1945; his attendance at Wake Forest University (BA, 1949) and University of California, Berkeley (MA, 1951); his career as teacher and principal at Hatteras Elementary School, as an editor, and as an executive at his father-in-law's glass manufacturing company in New Jersey; but primarily relating to his life as a poet and his academic career at Cornell University, 1964-1998, where he was Goldwin Smith Professor of Poetry at Cornell University after 1989; and to his numerous published works of poetry and his two National Book Awards (1973 and 1993) among other prizes.
Papers (1943-1990 [Bulk: 1969-1984]. undated) documenting the life and literary career of W. D. [William De Witt] Snodgrass (1926-2009), a Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania-born American poet, literary critic, translator and educator at various universities, including the University of Delaware (1979-1994); consisting of typescripts of two works: Autobiographical Essays (1979) and From the "Death of Cock Robin" (1979); also a proof of his pamphlet Magda Goebbels (1983); loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including from his works entitled D. D. Byrde Callyng, Jennie Wrenn (1984), Heart's Needle (1959), In Radical Pursuit (1976), Six Minnesinger Songs (1983), and Spaulding Distinguished Lectures (1969); and a printed brochure entitled A Note from the Poet (undated) by Snodgrass.
Oral history interviews relating to his youth and his experiences, 1917-1972, as the second African-American midshipman to attend the United States Naval Academy (Class of 1941) for approximately three weeks during the summer of 1937, and his education and career as a teacher in the Washington, DC school system, 1942-1972. Material documenting the life of WWII U.S. Navy Captain Victor Delano including accounts (1941-1986) of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and duty in the USS West Virginia, by Victor Delano, Pearl Harbor artifacts, correspondence, Familygrams, ships logs, research studies, photograph albums, loose photographs, certificates, diplomas, medals and ribbons, clippings, programs, and publications. Also includes two packets of drawings of Admiral Horatio Nelson's flagship, H.M.S. The WVOT (Radio Station: Wilson, N.C.) Collection is a scrapbook (1947-1948) containing identified photographs and newspaper clippings documenting the organization and early development of a private radio station in Wilson, N.C. At the time, Wilson was well-known for its tobacco warehouses. The photographs depict the station's founders and special events involving the radio station as well as views of Wilson and its tobacco warehouses and business district.

This collection contains materials related to LeRoy Hale's service during WWII in the 314th Infantry in the 79th Division. The collection includes photographs, correspondence letters to his wife, Emma, memorabilia, separation papers, newspapers and clippings, postcards, and handbooks. A small portion of this collection contains information about Lorraine Hale Robinson and her work during her employment at East Carolina University.

The collection has papers from the Massengill family, specifically John David, Samuel Evans, and Pauline (Massengill) DeFriece. Included are John's account books, booklets, DeFriece's correspondence with the Country Doctor Museum, photographs, and information about the S. E. Massengill Company.

Letters and ephemera (1926-1929) related to the life of Agnes Wadlington [Barrett], who was born in Trigg County, Kentucky in 1902, before she took a job at East Carolina Teachers College (now East Carolina University) as secretary to the president of the college. Also found with these papers are many photographs of members of the Putnam family of Murray, Kentucky. The only connection between Mrs. Barrett and the Putnam family appears to be that both she and Louise Vey Putnam Carter's husband Herbert Leland Carter both worked at East Carolina University. An 1982 engagement calendar kept by Mrs. Barrett documents her life during retirement in Greenville, North Carolina.
