Papers (1917-1941) of Frank M. Wooten Sr. (1875-1941), a leading Greenville attorney, Superior Court judge, and member of the N.C. General Assembly, and Greenville mayor, consisting of correspondence during first World War, letters, political campaign, pamphlets concerning tobacco, cultivation, agricultural alcohol, clipping, financial papers, etc.
Interview (1923-1998) with African-American woman from a rural background, who lived in the Statonsburg - Wilson, NC area, and who worked at the James Miller Tobacco Company in Wilson, NC, pertaining to family, sharecropping, work, and race relations. Stuart Carr, a Greenville, N.C., native, describes his experiences working at the Greenville Fertilizer Company at the beginning of the Depression; and then his years with the E. B. Ficklen Tobacco Company in Greenville (1938-1950) with responsibility for the Carolina Leaf Tobacco Company, which sold American tobacco to Chinese manufacturers. He describes the tobacco business in China, the Japanese presence before and during WWII in China, and the loss of his company's assets with the Communist takeover in China. He goes on to discuss the more contemporary involvement of Thailand in the tobacco market and China's contemporary relationship with American tobacco companies.
Items (1928-1941) related to Greenville, NC, resident James Howard Moye; and items (1955) related U.S. Coast Guard rescues in North Carolina. The Zion's Landmark Vol. 23, No. 7 and Vol. 32, No. 7 (10/15/1890 and 2/15/1899) periodical published semi-monthly by Zion's Landmark Print, Wilson, North Carolina (Primitive, or Old School Baptist) that was in the collection has since been transferred to the North Carolina Collection as of 2022.
Papers (1973-1977) of counselor at the Tideland Mental Health Center, Washington, N.C., who was imprisoned on drug related charges in Mexico, 1973-1975 consisting of correspondence, clippings, playboy magazine, abusive treatment of prisoners, etc.
Scrapbook (1917-1975) of U.S. Marine Corps officer, containing photographs, clippings, certificates, orders, and loose miscellany.
Collection (1942-1995, undated) of autobiographical accounts, manuscripts, printed forms, and clippings by Thomas Wilson Reese and his wife Lee Fleming Reese, relating to the donor's service as chief electrician's mate in the U. S. Navy, especially to his service aboard the aircraft carriers USS HORNET (CV 8) and USS LEXINGTON (CV 16) during World War II. Photocopies.
Papers (1905-1913, undated) consisting of correspondence, a letter copy book, photographs, picture post cards, brands of tobacco, etc. related to Halifax Co, North Carolina, native Quentin Gregory's work in China with the British-American Tobacco Company. Also included is a memoir written by his son Thomas Wynns Gregory in 2013 about life growing up and living as an adult in Halifax, N.C.
