Genealogical note cards and correspondence (undated) including records of births, confirmations, marriages, and deaths in the Catholic churches of the Southeast United States, especially Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, ca. 1822-1854, 1932-1979.
Official records (1915-2025) of Immanuel Baptist Church, Greenville, N.C., including correspondence, minutes of Board of Deacons and Church Conferences, financial records, membership and donation records, photographs, building records for the church building on Elm Street, and several church record books.
Included are family and historical documents such as legal records, maps, family trees, correspondence, clippings, genealogical notes, and photographs, and artifacts from or pertaining to Enfield (Halifax County), North Carolina, Whitaker, Vinson, Harris, and Beavans families. Also included are drawings and articles related to The Holme (ancestral home of the Whitakers in England), information about Whitaker's Chapel, the writings of John W. McGwigan (author of weekly column "Ramblin" in the Enfield Progress), and William H. "Bill" Mann, Jr.'s work on the history of Enfield.
This collection contains about 363 cubic feet of material documenting the Congressional career of Lunsford Richardson Preyer. Mr. Preyer (January 11, 1919-April 3, 2001) of Greensboro, North Carolina, served in the U.S. House of Representatives for twelve years (January 1969-January 1981).
Collection contains a variety of items relating to Eastern North Carolina especially including a photograph of East Carolina Teacher's College scene (ca. 1940's); a theater Program (ca. 1933/34) for a play presented by The Episcopal Junior Guild, Austin Building, East Carolina Teacher's College; and a Measles in Quarantine Keep Your Babies Away From Measles Broadside (4/7/1934) posted on the home of Ella Viola McGowan when she had the measles. Also included are photographs (some unidentified) of World War II era of which several pertain to military bases such as the 657th Engineer Topographic Battalion (40th Infantry Division, U.S. Army), and one is of Cecil May in U.S. Marine corporal uniform; a photocopy of a letter (1913) containing reminiscences of Confederate veteran John W. Vernelson (of N.C. State Troops) war service and describing the Veterans Reunion at Gettysburg, PA; receipts (1909-1910) for sales by Crown Bottling Works in New Bern, NC; Pitt County, NC, land grants and deeds (1782-1837) related to the Boyd, Edwards, and Nobles families; Bible Records and birth and death records for the Eldridge, Wilder/Hatsell, Pittman, Moore, Sewell, and Davis families; and the book (2011) "One of the Lucky Ones," Edgar Cannon's Contributions in World War II. Other materials (1856-2001) consist of manuscripts, research clippings, notes, photocopies, photographic prints, programs, notebooks, and newspapers, relating to the history and genealogy of Eastern North Carolina, especially Robersonville and Williamston in Martin County, NC. Also included are a 1941 color silent 16mm film about Greenville and slides (ca. 1970) documenting tobacco and old houses in Pitt County, NC.
Collection (1902-2003) of genealogical and historical research files compiled by John Henry Oden III. Also includes the R. C. Chadwick Mercantile Records, Claude F. Pilley Papers, and the Windley Family Papers. Consists mostly of copies of wills, tax records, letters, deeds, newspapers, birth certificates, family trees, and photographs related to families in Beaufort, Washington, Hyde, and Halifax counties, N.C.
This collection (1850-1988) includes records pertaining to Whitaker's Chapel, a Methodist Church near Enfield in Northeastern North Carolina, and minutes (1848-1939) of the Methodist Protestant Church's Roanoke Circuit to which it belonged.
Papers (2/23/1862 - 12/26/1868) consisting of a pocket notebook belonging to James H. Mills, Sergeant of Company I, 44th Regiment North Carolina Troops, the "Eastern Tigers," a unit recruited in Pitt County, including orders, inventories, muster and supplies lists related to the Civil War and a few post-war account records.
Rhaford Lanier of Duplin County, N.C., kept a record book for the Cypress Creek Company (mostly Duplin County men) associated with the 31st Regiment of N.C. Militia. It mainly covers 1840-1845 and 1861-1865 and includes, among other records, muster rolls, and allowances paid to soldiers' families (1864-1865).
Papers of D. R. Fosso (1977-1978) documenting the life and career of the Minnesota-born American poet and educator at Wake Forest University, 1964-; consisting of an octavo brochure including a poem entitled Arranging, by D. R. Fosso, published by Press For Privacy, Winston-Salem, NC (1978); also a small portfolio of poetry broadsides entitled Two Poems Two, including Storm, a poem by D. R. This collection contains materials (1940s-2013) related to the interests and activities of Holley Mack Bell II and Clara Bond Bell of Windsor and Eden House in Bertie County, N.C. Mr. Bell served in World War II, worked on several newspapers including the Charlotte News, Bertie Ledger-Advance, and the Greensboro Daily News; and was employed by the U.S. Information Agency as a press attaché at several American embassies in South America. Mrs. Bell worked as a social worker, in Public Welfare, and also with social service organizations while they lived in various South American countries. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bell were active in historic preservation, especially with the Historic Hope Foundation, Friends of Hope Committee, Preservation North Carolina, the Museum of the Albemarle, and the Historic Albemarle Tour (HAT), and were active in the Episcopal Church. Included are Bertie Ledger-Advance newspapers, correspondence, publications, photographs, clippings, pamphlets, notes, and brochures.

Papers (1908 – 1986, undated [bulk: 1964 – 1986]) of John Porter East, including biographical, genealogical, and historical materials relating to his life (b. 5 May 1931 – 29 June 1986) ; his marriage to Priscilla Sherk East and their children; his service as an officer in the U. S. Marine Corps; his battle against poliomyelitis and the paralysis it caused; his graduate studies in political science and as a professor of Political Science at East Carolina University, 1964 – 1980, including his teaching files for each of his classes, his academic and professional publications, speeches, interviews; and also his conservative Republican political beliefs and affiliations and political career, including his several unsuccessful attempts to win political office in North Carolina, 1966 – 1976, culminating in his successful campaign for and election to the United States Senate in 1980; but the bulk of the collection focuses on his service in the Senate, where he was aligned with Senator Jesse Helms (R-NC) and a member of Helms' political organization, the Congressional Club; including his mailing lists, correspondence and constituent cases and projects files; his office and staff files, including files of this administrative assistants, press secretaries and legislative assistants; his political patronage and nomination files, committee and legislative activities; his voting records, newsletters, voluminous clipping files, press and public relations files, including publications, audio and video of interviews, speeches, and political events; his frequent bouts of ill health due to poliomyelitis, hyperthyroidism, urinary tract blockages, and depression, and their side effects which may have contributed to his death by suicide; also including photographic prints and negatives, microfilm of committee records, correspondence, case and general files, voter registration files; and also oversized materials, 1981 – 1986, undated.
