Lewis, teacher in Pitt County, N.C., schools and principal of Stokes Elementary School, a segregated, predominantly African American public school in Stokes, Pitt County, North Carolina, including correspondence with the Pitt County Superintendent Arthur S. Alford, announcements of retirement, newspaper clippings, programs from the dedication of Matthew Lewis Field and Picnic Shelter, reports, photographic prints and photograph albums.
Collection contains Greenville and Pitt County, North Carolina, related photographs and ephemera (1917-2007) concerning the Pickwick Book Club, Girl Scouts, Greenville High School, and the Greenville Rotary Club, as well as documents commending the 7th Division American Expeditionary Force for their service in World War I. A large portion of the collection relates to the genealogy of the Goree, Kittrell, Hardee/Hardy, Tull, Proctor, and Hinton families, especially in Eastern North Carolina.
Papers (ca. 1867-2007, undated) including photographic negatives, prints, slides and manuscript materials; also video cassettes and moving picture film reels produced during his career as a professional photographer for the Greenville Daily Reflector newspaper, 1952-1972; as bureau chief for the Raleigh News and Observer in Eastern North Carolina; and as news director for television stations WITN-TV, WNCT-TV, 1972-1997; also including personal materials relating to his family and to William W. Thomas J. Jarvis was born on January 18, 1836 in Jarvisburg, North Carolina. He was a teacher, lawyer, and politician. The collection is dated February 1, 1890 and includes a letter from Thomas Jordan Jarvis in Greenville, North Carolina to Horace P. Gates in New York, New York. The strength of the collection is Jarvis' accepting Gates' invitation to meet Civil War veterans of the Roanoke Island Campaign and his description of his own service during the Civil War.

Carl Forsyth of the U.S. Coast Guard Station at Elizabeth City, North Carolina, to the Boy Scouts of the Greater Albemarle and the citizens of the township of Elizabeth City, N.C., at Sheep School Auditorium; also includes the orders (11 January 1944) of his commanding officer, R. L. Burke, to deliver the talk.
This collection consists of a book that has late 1700s Tison family birth, marriage, and death dates on the fly leafs and on the margins of pages. The book is titled, An Alarm to Unconverted Sinners in a Serious Treatise and was written by Joseph Alleine, late Minister of the Gospel at Taunton in Somersetshire [England], in 1672. This edition is the 1767 Boston, N.E. [New England] printing. On page 224 of the book is written, "Jonathan Tison his book baught [sic] January the 18 day 1775. The price 5S." The book is probably from the Farmville, North Carolina, area.
