The collection includes materials (1898-1959) documenting the work of Shackleford Banks native Josiah Clark Chadwick working on freighters running from North Carolina to New York, and then with the Army Corps of Engineers in North Carolina (1927-1959) working the Eastern N.C. federal waterway projects on diesel engines and then inspecting dredges. Included are family history, Chadwick's work history, training materials, engineers' level books, logbooks, and inventories of engineering property in Chadwick's charge.

Collection of photographic materials dating from 1944 to 1974 created by Dr. Samuel T. White, II, a Greenville, North Carolina optometrist. Materials include photographic prints, negatives, slides, indexes, and printed forms documenting personal, professional, and artistic photography. Subjects include portraits of family and acquaintances as well as landscape and community scenes primarily depicting Eastern North Carolina. An additional group of forty five black and white photographic prints is also included.

Interview (1903-1998) with home economics teacher from Macon County, NC, who attended North Carolina College for Women (now University of North Carolina, Greensboro), 1920-1924, pertaining to her family background, education, her teaching career in Huntersville, Mecklenburg County, NC, and her career as a home demonstration agent in Greensboro, NC, 1941-1958, working with North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service and the Tennessee Valley Authority, marriage to J. Zachary Taylor Koonce III (1928-2015) of Washington, N.C., was a public-school system educator and administrator for over 20 years who wrote poetry and essays about eastern North Carolina. Included in this collection are published and unpublished poems and short stories (1974-1988, undated) by Mr. Koonce including publications containing poetry and local history articles, and clippings of a local history column he wrote titled "Tying Up" for the Beaufort-Hyde News (1987-1988).

Papers (1860-1919, 1943) of John L. Bridgers family of Edgecombe County, North Carolina, including correspondence, photographs of the family home "Hilma," family members, and farm scenes, 1869 tax receipt, and a pardon signed by U.S. President Andrew Johnson.

Papers (1861-1933, undated) of Greenville, NC singer, songwriter, and director of Jarvis Memorial Methodist Church including correspondence, news articles, photographs, genealogical information, portraits, etc.

Collection (ca. 1876-1942) of manuscripts, photographs, and printed materials relating to Vice Admiral Niblack (1858-1929) and his family, especially his naval, engineering, and scientific careers. Included are his work with the Smithsonian Institution; services in the USS ALABAMA, USS BOSTON, USS CASTINE, USS CHICAGO, USS COSMOS, USS IROQUOIS, USS LACKAWANNA, USS MICHIGAN, USS PATTERSON, USS PITTSBURGH, USS TACOMA, USS UTAH, and the USS WINSLOW; as Director of Naval Intelligence, 1919-1920; and his services ((beginning in 1896) as naval attaché to the U. S. Embassies at Berlin and Rome and to the U. S. Legation at Vienna. Topics covered include combat at the Battle of Manila (1898) during the Spanish American War, involvement of the USS BOSTON in the Battle of Iloilo (1899) in the Philippine Islands during the Philippine-American War, the Occupation of Vera Cruz, Mexico, 1914, and during and after World War I, 1917-1919, 1921-1922. Other materials relate to the naming and launching (1937-1942) of the USS NIBLACK.
