Interview with retired science teacher, from Washington County, NC, whose father was director of prisons for State of North Carolina, who attended East Carolina Teachers College, worked in the Federal Bureau of Investigations crime lab, Washington, DC, taught science at Pantego High School, Pantego, NC, 1961-1968, and Pungo Christian Academy, Beaufort County, NC, 1968-1989. This collection (1791-1960) documents the horse and mule business, farm operations, land transactions, saw mill operation, and other business enterprises of Edward Cyrus Winslow (b. 1886) of Tarboro, Edgecombe County, N.C. Included in the collection are correspondence, financial and legal records such as account books, ledgers, bills and receipts, contracts with other mule dealers, promissory notes, agricultural liens and chattel mortgages, deeds, and lease and rental agreements. Also included are superior court records, blueprints of farm tracts and dairy equipment, printed material, business and family photographs, and a small quantity of family correspondence.
Material includes annual reports, data sheets, programs, sound recordings, publications, and correspondence related to the operation of the School of Music.
Autobiography of Joseph Greene Boyette's life from his childhood (born 1929) upbringing in eastern North Carolina until 1952 when he got out of the U.S. Navy and headed to Duke University to take classes. Boyette actually starts his memoir with some information on the extremely hard upbringing his mother (born 1903) had and also includes a section of notes that his mother wrote about the childhood experiences of her 3 boys.
Papers include photocopies of transcriptions of correspondence (1863-1864) written by Josiah Robert Peele Ellis of Wilson Co., North Carolina, to his wife Elizabeth Grimes Ellis while he was serving in Company C of the 43rd N.C. Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. The letters were transcribed in 1977 by Hugh Buckner Johnston who also provided supplementary information. Also included are genealogy records for the Ellis and Hill families of Eastern North Carolina.

The Edward Baxter Billingsley Collection (1817-1819, 1938–1999, undated) consists of historical research materials, drafts, and a typescript copy (643 pages) of One Destroyer and World War II: A History of the U. S. S. Emmons (DD457-DM22), by Edward Baxter Billingsley, that he later published as The Emmons Saga: A History of the U. S. S. Emmons (DD457 – DM22). Also included are photographic prints, photocopied naval documents, and microfilm reels concerning his research, and correspondence (1817-1819) related to his dissertation on Chilean and Peruvian wars of Independence.
Oral history interview with prominent African American businessman and political leader of Greenville, North Carolina, named Denison D. "D.D." Garrett, Sr. He discusses his background, education, business pursuits, and political involvement including race relations in Greenville and Pitt County, especially during the Civil Rights era.
This collection contains letters (1964-1967) written by brothers Terrence and Dennis Miller of St. Louis, Missouri, who joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Letters written by Dennis Miller during 1967 document his time serving in Vietnam as part of 3rd BN, 60th Ord Co. Also included are letters written by fellow soldiers and friends (through 1971), service records, negatives, military payment certificates, and Vietnamese money.

Zachary Taylor Koonce III (1928-2015) of Washington, N.C., was a public-school system educator and administrator for over 20 years who wrote poetry and essays about eastern North Carolina. Included in this collection are published and unpublished poems and short stories (1974-1988, undated) by Mr. Koonce including publications containing poetry and local history articles, and clippings of a local history column he wrote titled "Tying Up" for the Beaufort-Hyde News (1987-1988).
Papers (1860-1919, 1943) of John L. Bridgers family of Edgecombe County, North Carolina, including correspondence, photographs of the family home "Hilma," family members, and farm scenes, 1869 tax receipt, and a pardon signed by U.S. President Andrew Johnson.
