This collection (ca. 1909-2002) contains documents related to the career of David Jordan Whichard II of Greenville, N.C., longtime editor of The Daily Reflector and president and chief executive officer of the newspaper's publishing firm. Whichard also served on many professional boards such as the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association, the N.C. Press Association, the Associated Press Board of Directors, the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees, the ECU Board of Trustees, the UNC System Board of Governors, and on the board for Wachovia Corporation. All of these activities plus other business-related and civic-related activities are reflected in the correspondence, minutes, reports, publications, financial records, and clippings in this collection.

Steven N. Anastasion Collection

Steven N. Anastasion (U.S.N.A. 1942 graduate) served aboard the USS Champlin (DD601) from 1942 to 1945 and commanded the Destroyer Escort USS Melvin R. Nawman (DE 416) from 1952 to 1954 in Norway, Denmark and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the Destroyer USS Hawkins (DDR873) from 1958 to 1960 and the Guided Missile Cruiser USS Leahy (DLG-16) from 1964 to 1967 in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Papers refer to his service aboard these ships and include printed materials, newsletters, and navigational summaries. Also included are 2009 issues of The Seaweed, published by the USS Champlin Reunion Group and a transcription of an interview with Captain Anastasion done by Robert C. Bormann of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.

Catherine "Kitty" Smith Joyner Collection

The Woman's Club of Greenville, NC, was founded in April 1917 intending to raise Greenville to be equal with other cities in the state. Catherine "Kitty" Smith Joyner (b. 4 June 1932 – d. 2 Aug 2011), a native of Greenville N.C., worked with the Woman's Club of Greenville, NC, in the 1990's. This collection includes photographs of Greenville, N.C., and other locations in Pitt County, as well as a publication detailing the first fifty years of the Woman's Club of Greenville, NC.

Thomas William Linder Papers

Records (May 1940-November 1945) include mainly correspondence between Thomas William Linder of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his girlfriend (later wife) Evelyn Doris Hill of Cayce, South Carolina. Mr. Linder worked for the railroad and later in life was an engineer with Amtrak. The letters from April 1942 through August 1945 document his service in the U.S. Army with the 816th Engineer Aviation Battalion during World War II. He was promoted to corporal in September 1942. Other items include two photographs, holiday cards, a pay stub and a poem.
