The Phoenix Historical Society: African American History of Edgecombe County was founded in 2001 to recover, record, and promote the unique history of Edgecombe County (North Carolina) as experienced by members of its African American community. This collection contains the society's official records, brochures, event programs, and publications related to research, community events and sponsored projects.

Papers of Mark Morrow (1981-1998, [Bulk: 1981-1986]) documenting the life and career of the Greer, South Carolina-raised American journalist, editor, photographer, and essayist; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection volume entitled Images of the Southern Writer: Photographs (1981-1998), by Mark Morrow, including 17 letters, postcards and bills sent from Morrow to Stuart Wright regarding photographic orders, 1981-1986; also a letter from George Garrett to Stuart Wright enclosing a copy of Morrow's book, 1998.

This collection contains the life history of Lt. Commander Harold Stacey Burdick, who served in the Border War (1910s) and the Tampico Affair (1914), and World War I. It contains letters that he sent to his mother and father and a log journal detailing his accounts while on the USS Jouett. There are also news clippings and pictures of/about Harold Burdick as well as Annapolis and Naval ships like the USS Rhode Island. The collection also contains correspondence between his father, Daniel P. Burdick, and various associations and societies like Brown University, Columbia University and the U.S. Navy.

Files (1717-1957) of Murfreesboro, N.C. lawyers and Hertford County, N.C. officals, including correspondence, legal files, reports, financial records, etc. of B.B. Winborne, Attorney at Law, Winborne & Lawrence, Winborne and Winborne, Lemuel R. Jernigan and James L. Anderson.

This archive covers the early life and long United States Army career of Brigadier General George T. Bowman (b. 1869 and d. 1951). His career included service (stateside) during the Spanish-American War with the New York 65th Volunteer Infantry, with various New York volunteer and regular Army units in the Philippines (1899-1904), in Cuba (1906-1909), with Gen. John Pershing on the Mexican border (1915-1916), during World War I (1918-1919), and in Germany after World War I ended. Included are correspondence, orders and other military documents, photographs, newspaper and magazine articles, maps, narratives and commentary by Bowman, and a diary.

Papers (1789-1906) including correspondence, financial papers, legal records, public school registers, newspapers, promissory notes, receipts, copy of marriage and birth, etc.

Collection (1911-1956, bulk 1918-1919) consists of material related to Roy S. Fisk who served as an Army cook with Co. C, 131st Engineers, AEF, stationed in Le Mans, France, during the latter half of World War I. Included are correspondence, papers related to Fisk's military career, war-related publications, French guide books and souvenir photo albums from places he visited in France, a postcard book from the USS Kaiserin Auguste Victoria, and Vol. 1, No. 19, April 10, 1919, issue of The Bulletin which discusses issues in France and the military career of Brigadier General George S. Simonds. Also included are some papers and ephemera related to his post-military life.

Records (May 1940-November 1945) include mainly correspondence between Thomas William Linder of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his girlfriend (later wife) Evelyn Doris Hill of Cayce, South Carolina. Mr. Linder worked for the railroad and later in life was an engineer with Amtrak. The letters from April 1942 through August 1945 document his service in the U.S. Army with the 816th Engineer Aviation Battalion during World War II. He was promoted to corporal in September 1942. Other items include two photographs, holiday cards, a pay stub and a poem.

This collection consists of two chromolithographs produced by the Navy Records Society in 1901 depicting naval engagements of the Third Anglo Dutch War (March 27, 1672 to February 19, 1674). The prints illustrate the Battle of Solebay (May 28, 1672) and the Battle of Texel (August 21, 1673). The Battle of Solebay chromolithograph is divided into three sections, each titled to represent successive phases of the engagement and containing extensive printed inscriptions. The Battle of Texel chromolithograph is divided into seven sections, each bearing printed titles that mark specific times and stages of the battle and accompanied by printed inscriptions.

This collection includes letters mailed to Thomas Milton Carr, Jr. from May through December 1864 while he was serving in Company B of 2nd North Carolina Junior Reserves. Correspondents were mainly family members living in Martindale in Mecklenburg County, N.C., and nearby counties. Topics are news related to the Civil War, events of daily life and the effect of the war on them, and information related to friends and family members serving in the Confederate Army.

This collection consists of digital audio recordings of the weekly radio program What's Happening on Ocracoke?, hosted by Peter Vankevich and broadcast on WOVV 90.1 FM in Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. The recordings document local news, civic issues, and community events and include interviews and discussions with local officials, organization representatives, and community members. Topics addressed include town governance, public services, cultural activities, and issues affecting daily life on Ocracoke Island.

Papers (1860-1928, undated) including correspondence, clippings, diary, account of Kinsey's service before being captured near Charleston, weather conditions, deaths, morale problems, and battle, etc.

Records (1955, 1960-2016) of the Pitt County Historical Society (of North Carolina), including minutes, bylaws, correspondence, and clippings, photographs, financial records, programs and photographs. Also included are the records (1949-1950) of the Greenville Music Club, the Red Banks Home Demonstration Club (1946-1950), old Greenville advertising fans, and a scrapbook for the Town and Country Senior Citizens Club (1978-1999).

Papers (1926-2003) covering the schooling and naval service of U. S. naval officer, USNA class of 1931, Captain James H. Brown, including correspondence, reports, publications, clippings, and photographs. Extensive material pertains to his service during World War II aboard the USS SHAW (1940-1942), USS ABNER READ (1942-1944), and the USS AMMEN (1944-1945), as well as his service before and after World War II.
