Collection (1901-1926) of correspondence received by Maud Smith (née Tyson) and her husband Walter Edward "Edd" Smith, from family and friends. Collection includes letters to Maud Tyson, while she attended Littleton Female College, letters from Carl Tyson, during World War I, from the Headquarters of the 81st Division, at Camp Jackson, South Carolina, between May and November, 1918, and several other letters, as well as a list of transcripts and typed transcripts of all letters in the collection.
Included is a logbook/scrapbook kept by Henry A. Phelon (1831-1902) who served as an acting Master in the Union Navy (1862-1865) during the Civil War. Orders, holograph letters, dispatches, handwritten copies of documents, and newspaper clippings glued into this scrapbook chronicle his wartime service under Rear Admiral Samuel P. Lee with the Blockading Squadron off the coasts of Virginia and North Carolina on the U.S. Steamers Shawsheen, Monticello, and Daylight, and U.S. Ironclad Steamers Canonicus and Atlanta. Later clippings (through 1900) and documents pertain to his post-war years, most of which was spent in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
Memoir (written 1917-1918, 1938) of William Frederick Harding, Superior Court Judge for the Fourteenth Judicial District of North Carolina. Judge Harding's memoir covers his lifetime from his birth in 1867 at Aurora, Beaufort County, N.C., through 1918 including his childhood spent in Aurora, Stonewall in Craven County, Greene County and Greenville, N.C., his college years at UNC-Chapel Hill (1890-1894), his years as a practicing lawyer in Greenville and Charlotte, N.C., and the early years of his judgeship. A brief paragraph written in 1938 indicates his pending retirement as a Superior Court judge.
1944 edition of "Watts Procedure School of Nursing" manual used by Edith Corrine Solomon Logan. The nursing procedures were "collected and put in book form in order to make them available for the graduates and students at all times."
Includes receipts from tuition payments at College of Physicians and Surgeons in Baltimore, Maryland, letter and signatures of support for Smith to operate a drug store, and receipt from supply order.
