Oral history interview with Milton P. Fields relates to his experiences as a photographer in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga (CV-3) during World War II; and also his early life and family background (Interview 1, Sept. 20, 2013) . Interview 2 (Oct. 4, 2013) relates primarily to his post-World War II experiences, including his education at East Carolina University (1945-1949), his law school attendance at Emory University and Wake Forest University (1949-1953); and his life in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, as a prosecuting attorney and partner in a law firm (1950s-2013).

This collection (1942-1999) contains papers related to the World War II service of Lt. Commander Godfrey Cheshire, Jr., in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Harold C. Thomas (DE-21) for which he was the commander for a year. Included are photocopies of the ship's logs for the USS Harold C. Thomas, correspondence (1990-1992) with the Destroyer Escort Commanding Officers Association about reunions, Cheshire's military records (1942-1945, 1947), photocopies of clippings and articles about the Thomas and other DEs, photocopies of certificates, photographs, and DVDs containing oral history interviews of Cheshire by family members.

These files document his career including the U. S. Military Academy Class of 1942, his pilot training and World War II service in the 5th Air Force in the Pacific, and his postwar service in Germany with the 12th Air Force, and the 601st Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron and 526th Tactical Control Group.
