The Henry Ferrell Papers include professional and personal correspondence, committee and departmental reports, materials related to his scholarly works and research, including the book "No Time for Ivy," and materials related to his participation in professional and civic organizations.
Dr. Henry C. Ferrell, 1934-2020, was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Roy Cooper for his contributions to North Carolina. Dr. Ferrell participated in many committees and organizations that are both civic and professional. He served many years on Faculty Senate and as the Department Chair for the History Department. He authored many monographs such as "Claude A. Swanson of Virginia: A political Biography" and two histories of ECU, "No Time for Ivy" and "Promises Kept".
The Henry Ferrell Papers include professional and personal correspondence, committee and departmental reports, materials related to his scholarly works and research, including the book "No Time for Ivy," and materials related to his participation in professional and civic organizations. Materials date from 1961 to 2007 when Dr. Ferrell worked at East Carolina and primarily relate to his work at the University.
Correspondence is arrranged primarily chronologically, but topical files also exist.
Books, such as "Manual Members of the Operating Reserve" and "Operating Reserve" were removed from the collection. Personally identifiable information was also removed.
