In March 1907, East Carolina Teachers Training school was charted with groundbreaking ceremonies taking place on July 1908. In October of that year, the first students enrolled for classes. Over the years, the school's student body, academics, campus and student life grew. In 1921, ECTTS was renamed East Carolina Teachers College and began offering 4-year programs as enrollment reached 1,000 students. In 1951, ECTC was renamed East Carolina College and in 1967, the college received university status.

Photos dated 1924 include a view from the president's home, the hill from Fifth Street, women playing basket ball, a view of campus west of the dormitory, the dining hall, a view of campus near Culvert, the infirmary, a view near the Model School, and a wooded view of campus.
