The School of Nursing Administrative Records include reports, degree proposals, announcements, brochures, publications, dean's files, and information regarding the honor society.
A four-year nursing program at East Carolina was approved in 1959. Initially housed in the Rawl Building, the nursing school admitted its first students in 1960. The first graduating class consisted of seventeen students in 1964, and the school was accredited by the National League for Nursing in December of the same year. By 1966, ECU was offering RN and BSN programs. Eleven years later, a Masters of Science in Nursing program was established. In 2006, the school moved to the Health Sciences Campus; a year later, the School of Nursing officially became the College of Nursing. Today, the College of Nursing is recognized as an NLN Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice program as well as an accelerated second-degree BSN program.
