Jones, a native of Texas, served in Congress (1917-1941) and as judge and chief justice of the U.S. Court of Claims (1940-1947). He was chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture (1931-1940).
He recounts his impressions of Congress; World War I; farm legislation; Farm Bureau; National Grange; Farmer's Union; McNary-Haugen Bill; House Agriculture Committee; state and national elections; Franklin D. Roosevelt and the New Deal; Emergency Farm Mortgage Act; Farm Credit Act; R. A.; O.E.S.; W.F.A.; and personal recollections of Henry A. Wallace, George Peek, James F. Byrnes, Claude Wickard, Chester Davis, and others.
