Helen Dixie Koldjeski was born 1923 January 24 in North Carolina. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master's in nursing education at Indiana University in 1960 and 1962 respectively. She completed her Doctorate of Philosophy in sociology in 1973, also at Indiana University. Over her career, Koldjeski worked at the National Institute of Mental Health, the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, and East Carolina University School of Nursing. While at ECU, she oversaw the establishment of the nursing master's degree in 1977, and later served as an advisor to the proposal and establishment of a PhD Program in 2002. Dr. Koldjeski died on 2018 October 4.
