William Harrison Gardner was born 1813 September 18 in Hart County, Kentucky to Alexander and Sarah (Cann) Gardner. He attended the Kentucky School of Medicine, which merged with Louisville Medical College in 1908. Prior to 1850, Gardner married Martha Robinson Jett and they would go on to have Sarah C. (Garvin), Margaret, Elizabeth, Martha V., and William. His wife died in 1857, and three years later the family was living in Woodsonville, Kentucky. According to Zachariah Frederick Smith's History of Kentucky, Gardner was a lithotomist, general practioner, and surgeon (p. 751). He died 1879 April 29 in Hart County, Kentucky.
