The collection consists of photographs, diplomas and other educational records, correspondence, artifacts, and ephemera from Clara G. Gentry, a registered nurse.
Clara G. Gentry, the oldest of 7 children, was born in Roxboro, Person County, North Carolina, on 1902 February 12 to James Larkin and Rosa Bell (Buchanan) Gentry. Her mother and two of her sisters were nurses. She graduated from Watts Nurses Training School in 1932. At some point, she was the county nurse in Person County for Dr. Gentry, and she rode with him out to patients' homes. At 36 she married Christopher C. Scott and moved from Durham, where she was a nurse at Watts Hospital, to a farm in Wilson County, where she resigned from the profession. Gentry died 1978 February 11.
The Clara G. Gentry Nursing Papers include materials from Gentry's time in nursing school and her career afterwards. The collection consists of photographs, educational records, diplomas, and correspondence.
