Rear Admiral Jackson provides an indepth account of his childhood and youth in rural Arkansas, his life at the U.S. Naval Academy, and his service as a Naval officer during World War II. Included are details of experiences in the destroyer minelayer PREBLE operating out of Pearl Harbor during the summer and fall of 1941, the anticipation of war, and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
