This collection includes scrapbooks, photographs, and other ephemera related to Charles E. Inabinett's 15 year coaching career at Plymouth High School in Washington County, North Carolina.
Charles Edward Inabinett (June 17, 1927 – September 25, 1997) was born in Florence, South Carolina to Oscar Eugene and Martha Jane Inabinett. Inabinett graduated from Weldon High School in Weldon, North Carolina in 1947. A 14-year veteran of the United States Navy, Inabinett served during both World War II and the Korean Conflict before accepting a position as teacher and coach at Plymouth High School in Plymouth, North Carolina in 1952. During his time at Plymouth High, Inabinett taught health and physical education while also coaching the baseball, basketball, and football teams. Inabinett remained at Plymouth High until 1968, at which time he was named principal of John Cotton Tayloe Elementary School in Washington, North Carolina, a position he would hold until his retirement in 1986. Inabinett obtained a graduate degree from East Carolina University in 1976. Inabinett married Elizabeth Taylor Manning (October 31, 1929 – July 26, 1982) in 1945. Following Elizabeth's passing, Inabinett married Evelyn Josephine Miller.
This collection pertains to the life and career of Charles Edward Inabinett. The photographs include images of the basketball, baseball, and football teams that Inabinett coached throughout his career as well as personal photographs related to Sunday school services that Inabinett attended. Along with the materials related to his coaching career, there are also records pertaining to his 1997 high school reunion.
