This collection consists of four minute books of the Old Sparta Primitive Baptist Church, Edgecombe County, North Carolina, for the period of 1899 through 1998.
Old Sparta Primitive Baptist Church was founded 10 January 1836, at Old Sparta, Edgecombe County, North Carolina, by former members of Christ Church at Tarboro, Autrys Creek, and Conetoe, Edgecombe County, N.C., in order to have a church closer to where they lived. The congregation disbanded in 1998 and the church building was bought from the Kehukee Foundation by the Old Sparta Historical Preservation Society in 2008 to be used as a community museum. There is also a cemetery on the church grounds.

The main body of this collection is four books that recorded the minutes for the Quarterly meetings of the Old Sparta Primitive Baptist Church. Each of these minute books begins with the story of the creation of this church, its founding members, and its constitution. The quarterly meetings happened every January, March, June, September, and December to discuss the state of the church, visiting members, volunteers to visit other churches, a treasurers report, and other business associated with the church. These records also record baptism dates, deaths, membership and attendance to the church. The years are split up between the four books. The first is 1899-1924/1931-1932, the second is 1924-1932, the third is 1933-1966, and the final one is 1967-1998.
