This collection consists of a large scrapbook dedicated to B. Bruce Sugg, Jr., upon his retirement from the Board of Directors for the North Carolina National Bank. The scrapbook includes ads, articles, and photographs related to the State Bank Trust Co. and the North Carolina National Bank. The two banks merged in 1969, while Sugg, Jr., was Senior Vice President and Trust Officer. According to sugg family members, the ads were written by Mr. Sugg.
Benjamin Bruce Sugg, Jr., was born in Pitt County, North Carolina, on August 31, 1912, to Benjamin Bruce Sugg, Sr., and Lillian Gray Sugg. He held many positions at State Bank & Trust Company of Greenville, N.C., which merged with North Carolina National Bank in 1969, such as senior vice president and trust officer and as a member of the Board of Trustees. He married Sarah Barnes of Kinston, N.C., in 1941 and they had daughters Martha Sugg Tippette and Sarah "Sally" Sugg Wheeler. He died on May 3, 1988, in Greenville, N.C., where he spent his life.
This collection consists of a large scrapbook (1982) containing ads and published articles (1959-1971, undated) from the Greenville, N.C., Daily Reflector newspaper for the State Bank Trust Co. and later the North Carolina National Bank (NCNB). The scrapbook includes a dedication page, stating it is dedicated to Bruce B. Sugg, Jr., and a list of the NCNB Board of Directors.
Additional materials in the scrapbook include photographs (1967-68), a typescript copy (undated) of the poem The Nine Little Goblins by James Whitcomb Riley, and State Bank Trust Co. and NCNB printed materials (1961-63, 1965-68, 1971, undated), including an article (undated) written by Sugg, Jr., on the merger of State Bank Trust Co. and North Carolina National Bank.
