Abstract: This collection contains documents from 1949-1953 related to Reverend Henry Speight, born in Greenville, NC, who was a pastor for the First Christian Church in Staunton, Indiana, and the Vanceboro Christian Church in Vanceboro, North Carolina.


Biographical/historical information

Reverend Dr. Henry F. Speight was born in Greenville, N.C. in 1926, Served in the Marine Corps. during World War II, Attended East Carolina University, Christian Theology Seminary at Indiana State University, and Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville. He was a pastor for churches in Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, and Maryland. From 1991-1995, he served as Mayor for the town of Ocala, Florida. Rev. Henry Speight passed away on 25 January, 2006.


Scope and arrangement

This collection contains photos of Reverend Henry Speight, and notes on members of church (1949-1953) including dates for baptisms, funerals, and marriages. Other documents include minutes from a church meeting (1952) at Vanceboro Christian Church, a letter from a member informing Rev. Speight he's no longer attending his church (1953), a letter from E.E. Edwards to Mr. Lancaster about speaking at his church (1953), a post card from Hebron Colony, Inc. and a letter from the pension fund of disciples of Christ to Rev. Henry Speight (1953). A letter to Reverend Speight from Lt. Ralph Ripple, a naval aviator, describesing the Japanese and Korean countryside, conditions on U.S.S Boxer, and feelings on being a fighter pilot during the Korean War (1953).
