Box 1 Folder a Photo #1: Allen Hardee House. Photo Date unknown; probably ca. 1898. Size: 9 3/16" x 7". Description: Photo shows entire front of house with the following standing in the foreground: (Left to Right) In front of picket fence: unidentified boy, Epenetus Hardee. Behind picket fence: Ernest Edward Hardee (son of Epenetus and Serena), Serena Nelson Hardee (wife of Epenetus). This house is thought to have been built for Allen Hardee (1802-1870) in the mid-1840s after he migrated to Greene Co., NC, from Pitt Co., NC. Allen deeded this house and farm to his son, Epenetus in 1869. A negative of this photo is at the N. C. State Archives, Raleigh (Negative Number: N.89-6-167)

Row 1: Guy Hardee, Ralph Pope Hardee, Marjorie Hardee, Epenetus Hardee, Serena Nelson Hardee. Row 2: Ernest Edward Hardee, Bessie Taylor Hardee. By the time this photo was taken, the front porch had been updated with new turned supporting posts with sawn brackets, new handrails, turned balusters, and foot rails-all typical porch features of the Victorian period. A negative of this photo is at the N. C. State Archives, Raleigh (Negative Number: N.89-6-168)
