Biographical/historical information

The Pollock family of Trenton, N.C., was descended from Thomas Pollock (born ca. 1800). The family has long been prominent in the public life of Jones and Craven counties. Twentieth century Pollocks have included bankers, public officials, and major landholders.

Scope and arrangement

Court records- the majority of which are Jones County mortgage and chattel liens (1918-1922)- comprise about half of this collection. The mortgage liens involve lands chiefly in either Trenton or Maysville, N.C., and include liens on the lands' agricultural production. The chattel liens typically involve such personal property as "a Ford automobile," "a bay mule," and numerous other interesting items.

The remainder of the court records are Mayors' Court complaints and a Jones County court case record. The complaints deal with construction and maintenance of Trenton dwellings (1921). The Jones County court case record is an enumeration of amendments to a land dispute hearing between L. M. Pollock and several defendants (1897).

Miscellany includes two Ku Klux Klan pamphlets (1916, 1918); a financial statement of the Bank of Jones in Trenton (1926); R. L. Pollock's daybook (1873), which lists alphabetically hundreds of names of his debtors; a receipt (1886); a credential certificate of North Carolina Grand Lodge #81 (1922); a list of creditors of A. L. Roundtree and L. M. and M.I. [?] Pollock (1893); and copies of genealogical data- possibly from a family Bible- on Thomas Pollock's children (ca. 1825-1844).
