Biographical/historical information

Andrew Miller was born on December 18, 1787. He married Mary Cory, born in 1805, and the couple had at least five children: one daughter and four sons. Andrew Miller died on July 25, 1863, in Rochester, New York. His wife, Mary, died in July 1870 in Rochester as well.

The Clinton Courier is a local newspaper serving the village of Clinton, N.Y. and the town of Kirkland, N.Y., which Clinton is located in.


Scope and arrangement

Correspondence includes two letters (1831, 1839) from England to relatives in America, describing the unsettled conditions and continued burning of large farms in the English countryside. Other subjects of discussion include agricultural failures, adventures of a seafaring relative, and the unequal division of a family estate in addition to general family news.

Other items include New York deeds (1802, 1827), a lease (1810), a will (1863), receipts (1822-1861), a note written in German, and a copy of The Clinton Courier (Clinton, N.Y.), January 20, 1863.
