This picture shows racks built for holding the sticks of green tobacco. The sticks are put in racks to prevent them from going through a "heat" before they are put into the barn. If the tobacco is wet, hanging the tobacco in racks, allows the water to drain off before being hoisted up into the barn. Notice the empty sticks in the pile. They are tied in bundles of 50. This way the farmer can keep up with the number of sticks used and compares that number with the number needed to fill the barn.
