Abstract:
The 50,000-acre Lake Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge was established by the federal government on October 30, 1934. The Hyde County lake harbors one of the nation's finest wintering waterfowl populations and has been for years a mecca for hunters. It is one of the few national refuges where hunting is permitted. Critcher reports on a 22-year period of waterfowl hunting there from 1940-1941 to 1960-1961. Included in the report are waterfowl kill by species, number of hunters and number of hunting blinds, and bag limits.
