Founded by the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, Roanoke Christian Camp had its beginnings in 1945. In 1948, it obtained a permanent location on the Pamlico River near Washington off River road. Frank Leggett is remembered for the idea of creating a camp as well as for leadership in securing a site.
