Abstract:
"For 127 years, this Wilson County store has been keeping its community supplied -- by relying on people just as much as what's on the shelves." Established by Paul Lee Woodard, the store had its beginnings in small farming community of Black Creek, south of Wilson. During the 1930s Depression, the store printed its own currency, that it paid its employees, who in turn bought merchandise from other Wilson retailers a, and in turn were paid back by the Woodard store. In 2010, the store was purchased by the owners of Womble Hardware & Tackle.
