Abstract:

"What began as a fix for gummed-up textile machines has grown into a family-run company with a devoted following, still made in the same quiet corner in Rockingham County." The Charlie Soap Plant is located on the banks of the Mayo River. Charlie Southerland produced an oil originally intended for knitting machines. Later the oil was redeveloped as a soap.
