Abstract:
Hugh Cale, a mulatto, was born in Perquimans Co., NC, represented Pasquotank County, NC in the General Assembly at various times. He was a member of the Pasquotank County Board of Commissioners, a justice of the peace and a member of the Pasquotank County Board of Education. In Legislature, Cale introduced the bill in the NC House of Representatives to establish a normal school for blacks in Elizabeth City. He was also a member of the board of trustees of the NC Agricultural and Mechanical College for the Colored Race at Greensboro, NC 1891-1899.
