Abstract:

The Carolina Chocolate Drops began as a group of three young musicians--Rhiannon Giddens, Justin Robinson, Dom Flemons--who were keeping alive the traditions of African American string bands of the Piedmont. However, after nine years the group isn't the same band they were, either in membership or musical choices. Giddens is the only original member that remains. Lawrence explains how the group changed.
