Abstract:
The 2005 NC General Assembly enacted a number of bills affecting criminal laws and procedures. Among the bills were ones dealing with sex-related offenses and animal-related offenses, controlled substances, and sentencing and probation. The most significant one, however, was the Blakely Bill which responded to rulings of the U.S. Supreme Court that rendered unconstitutional portions of North Carolina's sentencing statutes.
