The Dismissal of a School Superintendent: A Case Study

Record #:
18144
Abstract:
In January 1972, the Wayne County Board of Education voted to dismiss its superintendent, Gerald D. James, during his contract. The dismissal, which led to a year of litigation, raised the question of how a superintendent dismissed during his contract term may obtain judicial review of a school board's decision in North Carolina.
