Abstract:
A U.S. Department of Education survey of 72,000 public schools revealed that minority students are punished more than white counterparts. Similarly, North Carolina schools show a disproportionate number of suspensions compared to school population amongst minority students. For example, in Wake County the largest public school has 26.5 percent black students but those 26.5 made up 59 percent of the suspensions.
