Fishing for Shad on the Cape Fear

Abstract:
Shad fishing was a time honored activity. Beginning as early as March, men would head to Elizabethtown, to fish for shad spawning in the Cape Fear River. This pastime involved men who both fished and ate shad, though, later in the season this ritual was opened up to larger communities.
