Abstract:
The foreign trade zone concept was established in this country in 1934 when Congress passed the enabling legislation. \"Foreign-trade zones are enclosed areas under U.S. Customs supervision where goods imported from foreign countries may be brought without the usual, immediate, formal Customs entry.\"ÂOn April 28, 1980, Charlotte Foreign-Trade Zone 57 became the country's 57thÂand North Carolina's first foreign-trade zone (FTZ).
