Abstract:
The common loon (Gavia immer) is a large waterfowl that can measure up to three feet long with a wingspan of about fifty-eight inches. During the breeding season in its Northern territory it is colorful and musical, but when the loon comes South to winter, its coloration becomes drab and its music becomes muted.
