Abstract:

In 1953, Lester \"Leck\" Helms started Ma Leck Woodcrafts of Wingate as a way to earn a little extra money. What resulted was a booming business that now grosses over $6.5 million a year and employs over five hundred craftsmen in five major plants and a few smaller ones in the Piedmont. His ten original products have grown to over 2,500 items in the area of wooden gifts and decorative accessories.
