Alcoa at Badin

Abstract:
Alcoa's Badin Works, located on the Yadkin River in northeastern Stanly County, is observing its fifty-fifth anniversary. The first pound of aluminum was produced there in 1916, and in 1969, over two hundred million pounds were produced and shipped. The Baden Works was the first, and the only, aluminum smelter in the state. Over eight hundred people work there, with a payroll in 1970 in excess of $7 million.
