Abstract:

The P.H. Hanes Knitting Company began in 1903 with 150 employees in a plant just north of Winston-Salem. Today the company has grown to 4,500 employees. The article traces the history of the company. The name Hanes is synonymous with hosiery, socks, and undergarments.
