Abstract:
During the 1980s, almost half of the furniture manufactured in the United States was made in North Carolina. Between 1990 and 2006, industry employment dropped 41 percent as many manufacturers moved overseas. North Carolina has lost 26,000 jobs since 2000. However, Lexington artist Bob Timberlake refused to allow one of his furniture lines to be moved overseas.
