Abstract:
Lake Waccamaw, the largest natural lake in the eastern part of the state, covers 8,936 acres. The lake supports a good pelagic fish population and fair fishing. Fish species harvested there include white perch, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed, and blue gill. In an effort to improve the fishing, fish shelters constructed out of old automobile tires have been placed in the lake. The shelters, or fish hides, contained approximately thirty tires each and were built in a pyramid shape.
